The Cohort Method

Cohorts are invite-only peer groups that gather twice monthly (online). Every Cohort member is also part of our year-round community.

Why Cohorts?

The author of your favorite book, the dean of your business school, the creator of your go-to social app, your local representative...they’re all in cohorts already, run by ultra-exclusive organizations.

How do we know?
Because we cracked the code on small-group conversations while leading one of these organizations, and saw first-hand how transformative they can be.

We learned a lot about what works — and what doesn’t — over years spent testing group size, participant makeup, moderation style, and programming.

But we don’t think you need to be at the apex of your career (or past it) to benefit from moderated conversation with a hand-selected group of your peers.

In fact, we believe ambitious, thoughtful young people have the most to gain from this model. Peers striving for what’s next and co-navigating similar life stages bring a level of nuance and know-how not often provided by well-intentioned friends, coaches, or mentors.

That’s why we started Cohort.

How It Works

A small group of hand-selected members gather for six conversations over three months.

What do Cohorts do?

Cohorts meet (online) six times over the course of twelve weeks for off-the-record conversations focused on a shared experience, challenge, or goal. We hand-pick the members of each Cohort — and create bespoke conversational guides for every session — so no two experiences are the same. Cohorts are invite-only.

What do Cohorts discuss?

Whether a Cohort is centered around navigating a new leadership position, launching a new venture, or debating a major change of course, the programming pillars and norms are the same. Groups meet for 75 minutes of moderated discussion, and members are expected to share anecdotes, offer advice, ask questions, or pressure-test half-baked thoughts to jointly reach new understandings.

How do members prepare?

Preparation looks different for each topic and each person. Sometimes, it requires reflecting on a challenge and preparing to share it with your peers. Other times, it requires jotting down a few questions keeping you up at night or reading a short text. All the prep is designed to prompt sharing of current experiences and challenges, and to facilitate meaningful, productive conversation.
